Sinclair confident of maiden Regional Super50 call-up

Kevin Sinclair has been the brightest light in the West Berbice team — wherein popular West Indies batsman Shimron Hetmyer is featured — in the ongoing SBF Cricket Guyana Inc. (CGI), having already registered three ‘player-of-the-match’ performances in the five rounds that have been played.

This right-handed top-order batsman, who also bowls off-spin, spoke to Guyana Times Sport after recording another ‘player-of-the-match’ performance, against the Lower Corentyne team at the Young Warriors Ground in Cumberland, East Canje. In that match, the Lower Corentyne team suffered their first defeat in this tournament, and Sinclair, who scored a solid 51, also took one wicket.
He had this to say about his possible maiden call-up: “My chances are (real, I) just have to keep putting in the hard work; and I will remain very positive”.
Having come ‘through the ranks’, wherein he dominated local cricket, Sinclair played in the Guyana Under-19 team and was adjudged the best junior cricketer in 2018. He has been recording consistently good performances in the CGI Academy programme, and has been having a dream season in the league, producing five-wicket hauls and half-centuries.
Sinclair disclosed that he has been working on his all-round game, and the academy programme has helped him tremendously. “I have been working a lot in the Academy, especially on my batting and my fitness as well”, Sinclair said.
With the CGI Franchise signing off on Thursday, Sinclair added that he would be looking to contribute with both bat and ball as his team looks to finish at the top, or in a good position in the standings.
Sinclair highlighted that, heading into matches, he has been studying the opposition off the field. In approaching the match against the Lower Corentyne side, Sinclair said, Nial Smith was on his mind, because the paceman had just taken a 6-wicket haul against Georgetown
Sinclair will be eager to finish the tournament on a high as West Berbice come up against Georgetown at Everest today, Tuesday October 22, and against West Demerara on Thursday October 24 at Tuschen. (Brandon Corlette)
