Singh, Paul stand tall, but Windward Islands lead by 169

Guyana Harpy Eagles will want to wrap the Windward Islands Volcanoes innings early on day four of the Cricket West Indies (CSWI) Regional Four-Day Championships at Queen’s Park Oval, Trinidad. Volcanoes were 157-7 after 47 overs, with a lead of 169 runs when stumps were drawn on day three.
Harpy Eagles resumed the day on 181-5 and posted 327 all out, replying to Volcanoes’ first innings total of 339. Vishaul Singh missed out on his ninth First-Class century, as he scored a composed 93, which included nine fours in 221 balls. He was supported by Keemo Paul, who scored 73 from 133 balls, hitting six fours and one six in his innings.

The duo featured in a 146-run partnership. Bowling for Volcanoes, off-spinner Kenneth Dember claimed 4-36 and pacer Sherman Lewis had 4-59. In response, Volcanoes lost Devon Smith for a duck, when he was bowled all ends up by Nial Smith. Paul continued to swing the ball and sent back Teddy Bishop (15) and Kaveem Hodge (15), but Alick Athanaze stood tall with his second fifty of the match.

Devon Thomas scored a century against Barbados

Athanaze struck nine fours in his 63-ball 58. Clinton Pestano, who went wicket-less in the first innings, picked up two scalps, but Athanaze and Ryan John added 35 runs for the sixth wicket to bring Volcanoes back into the game. Larry Edward is on 29 and Dember is on nine, in a 32-run partnership. Final-day play is set for today from 10:00h Eastern Caribbean time.
