Sophia man charged for assaulting brother

A North Sophia, Greater Georgetown man was before the Georgetown Magistrates’ Courts to answer to a charge of assault against his brother.
Wazim Pereira, 25, of Lot 111 North Sophia, denied that he committed the act maliciously but rather explained that he was provoked.
The charge against him alleged that on September 12, 2017, at North Sophia, he unlawfully assaulted Raymond Pereira.
The defendant explained to Magistrate Fabayo Azore that his brother, who is an alcoholic, consistently verbally abuses family members.
He told the court that on the day in question, he attempted to prevent his brother from doing this and unintentionally hurt him.
Magistrate Azore grant bail to the defendant in the sum of ,000. The case will continue on September 20.
