Sophia-St Angela’s clash too close to call

Action in the sixth annual Courts/Malta Pee-Wee Football will resume today at the Banks DIH, Thirst Park Ground, with the ‘highlight’ encounter being possibly between defending champions St Angela’s Primary and newcomers Sophia Primary.
On the opening day of the tournament, last Saturday, Sophia were in fine form as they trounced Winfer Gardens 8-0. Ronaldo Wilson scored four goals while one goal each came from Shem Howard and David Weeks plus an own goal.
However, St Angela’s and inaugural winners Marian Academy played to a goalless stalemate.

After the first day’s action, Sophia Primary players (yellow bib) looked one of the most compact teams, but they will possibly face their toughest test in St Angela’s Primary

It makes this match, a crucial one for the two-time defending champions since another defeat or a draw could put their title hopes in jeopardy.
The 2016 runner-ups, St Agnes will hope to continue on the winning path after they needled Grove Primary 1-0 thanks to Isaiah Chester, but they face a Redeemer unit who overcame North Georgetown 2-0, thanks to a double from Nicholas Watts.
Another match to which much attention will be paid is St Ambrose Primary against Den Amstel, given that St Ambrose Primary routed Colaaco Primary 8-0 with four goals from Jacob Rodney and a brace from Rovin Henry. D’Andre Anderson and an own goal accounted for the other goals scored in the game.
Keilshon Humphrey was the star in Den Amstel Primary’s 3-0 win over Smith Memorial, scoring a hat-trick.
The tournament, which is catering for 32 primary school teams from Georgetown, East Bank of Demerara, East Coast of Demerara and West Demerara, is currently in its round-robin stage.
