The Golyn 10/10 organised by the Guyana Softball League (GSL) and sponsored by Golyn and sons, Trophy Stall and Miss Love Trading (West Coast) saw mixed fortunes for teams who were previously unbeaten.
The results are as follows:
At Leonora, Speedboat SC mauled Rydem Star by 10 wickets. Rydem Star won the toss and batted and were always in trouble as their batting seem clueless against the bowling of Speedboat. Wickets tumbled frequently as the batters tried to hit their way out of trouble and in the process gifted their wickets away.
They lost their first wicket to the first ball of the day and never recovered as they tumbled to 30 all out in 8.3 overs. Anand Bharat 3-2 off one over and Sudesh Ram with 3-14 from two overs were the destroyers for speedboat SC. Speed boat in reply took 1.4 overs to knock off the runs without losing a wicket.
Unstoppable XI came from behind to shock Ruimzeight XI by 12 runs. Unstoppable having lost all the sessions were on the verge of giving up fielding last when the Ruimzeight XI batters handed them a lifeline in the match which was the turning point after they were cruising at 55-1 in three overs chasing 119 to win.
Unstoppable batted first and were in early trouble but Eustas Joseph prop them up with a flamboyant 47 (1×4;6x6s) off 14 balls before he departed to a fine piece of bowling Doodnauth Rambarose who ended 1-16 off two overs. Unstoppable ended on 118-6 in 10 overs.
Indar Dukhie opening the bowling took 2-18 off two overs to support the bowling. In their turn Everyone had Ruimzeight to win as they had the opposition baffled as the runs were coming easily until the introduction Renaldo McAllister who started the slide by picking up two wickets in his first over and thus lifted the spirits of the Unstoppable side and gave the bowlers renewed hope which the promptly delivered on by limiting Ruimzeight to 102-8 in their 10 overs.
Vipers cruised to victory over Prem XI by seven wickets:
Prem XI won the toss and batted losing three wickets in the first over and never recovered and at one stage were 11 runs for six wickets down and were in danger of being bowled out for the lowest total in the tournament but Narine Bailey batting at number seven had other ideas and started his account with a six over long on which gave him the confidence that he needed and clobbered the bowling to all parts of the field.
One such shot was a flick nonchalantly over square leg for six which brought the crowd to its feet as he continued to pummel the bowling ending on 55 not out 1×4;(6x6s) off 24 balls and pushing his team’s total to 85-8 in 10 overs to give his team a fighting chance. Arif Hussain with 3-5 off two overs and Amit Hussain with 2-1 off two overs were the bowlers who caused the problems.
In their turn Vipers started brightly but lost a couple of wickets in the middle but Arif Hussain with 33 (2x4s; 2x6s) off 13 balls and with support from skipper Aftab Hussain 24 (3x6s) off 8 balls guided them 91-3 in 6.2 overs. Rajendra Kumar took 2-22 from two overs for Prem XI.
Exclusive XI snapped their losing streak by defeating Superbet XI by four wickets. Exclusive XI made up of young players who hail from the Good Fortuin area gained the crowds admiration as they dispatched Superbet in calm fashion.
Superbet XI batted first and the steady procession of their batters saw them being limited to 65 all out in 8.1 overs with Vijai Mohram with 15 (1×4;1×6) off 10 balls being the only batsman to offer opposition. Imran Ally with 3-10 off two overs and skipper Ricky Persaud with 2-10 from 1.1 overs took the wickets upfront to limit the Superbet XI. In reply Exclusive XI made 66-6 in 9.4 overs with Aaron Shivpersaud with 26 (1×4; 1×6) off 20 balls guided them to victory. Vijai Mohram 2-10 and Irshad Hussain 2-17 were the pick of the bowlers.
