St Cuthbert’s whip Young Guns in T20 encounter

St Cuthbert’s battled Young Guns in a thrilling T20 encounter during the course of the week at St Cuthbert’s Mission, and demolished the visitors by a whopping nine wickets.

The victorious St Cuthbert’s team

Batting first, Young Guns struggled to find the boundaries, as the home team’s members were strict in their line and length, and managed to have the Young Guns reeling at 75-5 in 11.4 overs.
But just as things were looking gloomy for the visitors, Sunil Ramlall and Michael (only name given) gave their team hope when they went on the attack. Neither score nor low run rate bothered the due as they lifted their team out of trouble, and while Ramlall was bowled for 40 off 20, Michael carried on, smashing 30 off 20 deliveries, which enabled Young Guns to post 161-8 from their allotted 20 overs.
Bowling for St Cuthbert’s, Timothy Andrew took 3-21, while Ronnie Simon, Avinash Poonasammy, Denzil Schuman and Rahual Poonasammy chipped in with one wicket each.
Needing 162 runs off 120 deliveries, St Cuthbert’s went about their chase in a tactical manner, despite losing Rahual Poonasammy for a single run.
David Francis laid the foundation with a patient run-a-ball 40, while Stallone Simon contributed 55 runs off 48 balls, but Avinash Poonasammy blasted 41 runs off 12 deliveries to singlehandedly snatch the game away from the Young Guns.
St Cuthbert’s ended on 166-2 in 16.1 overs. Bowling for Young Guns, Joseph Manhorlall took 2-27.
