Sukhai falters at Round of 16 as Guyana junior table tennis players open campaign – South American Youth Games

Guyana’s junior table tennis players opened their campaign on Monday at the IV South American Youth Games in Panama with mixed results, as the Round of 32 matches were contested at the Instituto Técnico Especializado Superior (ITSE).
In the Under-19 Girls’ Singles, Samara Sukhai recorded Guyana’s lone victory of the session, advancing to the Round of 16 with a straight-sets win over Curaçao’s Mikha Boekhoudt. Sukhai secured the match 4-0, taking the sets 13-11, 11-1, 11-4 ,and 11-7.
However, Jasmine Billingy was eliminated after going down 0-4 to Peru’s Luciana Granados. Billingy fell 9-11, 7-11, 5-11, and 3-11 in her Round of 32 encounter.
Sukhai’s run came to an end later in the Round of 16, where she lost 0-4 to Argentina’s Luciana Frias. Despite competing in each game, she was beaten 4-11, 8-11, 4-11, and 7-11.

In the Under-19 Boys’ Singles, Guyana also faced early exits. Malachi Moore was defeated 0-4 by Argentina’s Franco Varela, losing 3-11, 5-11, 4-11, and 9-11 in his Round of 32 match.
Kayden Meusa suffered a similar fate, going down 0-4 to Brazil’s Davi Fujii. Meusa was beaten 3-11, 5-11, 2-11, and 4-11.
The Guyanese players will now turn their attention to the mixed teams segment of the competition on Wednesday. They are drawn in Group 2 where they will face Brazil, Peru, and Bolivia.
