Suspect on station bail as probe continues

Murder of 90-year-old

Ranks of the Guyana Police Force (GPF) arrested and later released a suspect in relation to the murder of a Hope, East Coast Demerara (ECD) man who was found dead with marks of violence about his body in his kitchen on Tuesday.
According to Police, the suspect was arrested just after the man’s death, but was released on station bail on Friday.

Dead: Sukhnanan Dugi

Guyana Times was informed that the suspect was released after the 72-hour stipulated period. Meanwhile, Police are still trying to comb through bits and pieces of information to find the pensioner’s killer.
On Tuesday 90-year-old Sukhnanan Dugi, called “Henry Sukhnanan” of Lot 6 Hope Lowlands Public Road, ECD, was found murdered at his home.
Based on reports received, the man, who lived alone, was last seen on Monday at about 16:00h. However, his body was found on Tuesday at about 11:00h.
The man’s niece who made the discovery told detectives that she would visit her uncle on a regular basis to cook, wash, and clean for him. Upon her arrival, to the man’s home on Tuesday, she revealed that she observed his slippers at the top of his staircase but as she entered his home, she saw bloodstains on the floor of the sitting room area.
The woman said she immediately thought something was amiss and called out for him but received no answer. She then went into the kitchen, and made the discovery, the police were told.
The 90-year-old’s motionless body was found under his kitchen sink, covered in blood. The young woman immediately raised an alarm and the police were summoned to the scene.
When investigators arrived on the scene, they reported that they observed two open wounds to the back of the pensioner’s head, one to the right side of his face, swelling to the left side of his face, and wounds on his right hand and wrist.
A piece of wood, suspected to be the murder weapon, was also recovered along with a bloodstained piece of cloth on the floor.
The man’s house did not appear to have been ransacked, and there were no signs of forced entry. (G9)
