Suspected murder/suicide: DPP orders inquest into deaths of Region 7 couple

Three years after a fuel dealer and his reputed wife were found dead in their home in a suspected murder/suicide, an independent judicial officer has been assigned to investigate the deaths.
A coroner’s inquest conducted by Magistrate Dylon Bess will determine if anyone should be held criminally liable for the deaths of Munishwar Ramkellawan and Marianny Martinez.
The proceedings will commence on September 20 at 13:00h at the Kamarang Magistrate’s Court.

According to a notice issued by the Registrar of the Supreme Court of Judicature, Sueanna Lovell, a total of 12 witnesses will testify in the inquest.
The bodies of Ramkellawan, 36, and his reputed wife, a 26-year-old Venezuelan national, were found with gunshot wounds to their heads at their Eteringbang, Region Seven (Cuyuni-Mazaruni) Landing home on June 28, 2019.
A senior Police official had told this publication that investigators were treating the couple’s death as a murder/suicide case and it is believed that Ramkellawan shot his wife to her head once before turning the gun on himself moments after they had a dispute at their residence.
Reports are that the couple had been involved in a common-law relationship and operated a fuel business from their residence along the Eteringbang Landing.
An eyewitness had said that hours before they were found dead, Ramkellawan and his wife were seen imbibing alcoholic beverages at their residence.
This publication was told that after some hours of imbibing with each other, persons observed the man and woman engaged in a heated argument. Their row is said to have lasted quite a while before they eventually retreated to the inside of their home together.

The gun that was discovered in the couple’s home

Shortly after the duo had entered their residence, persons in the area heard two loud noises, which sounded like gunshots, but could not ascertain from which direction they came.
Sometime later, their lifeless bodies were found lying next to each other on a bed in the home.
It was an employee who worked for the couple that made the gruesome discovery when he turned up at the residence/business and did not locate his bosses.
Ramkellawan was discovered bearing a gunshot wound to the right side of his head while his wife bore a single wound to the left side of her head.
Additionally, a 9mm Taurus pistol along with eight live rounds were found on the bed between their two bodies, and two spent shells were discovered in the bedroom.
Their cause of death was given as gunshot injuries to the head.
