Cato’s goal power St Angela’s to title repeat

t. Angela’s Primary created history as they stormed to an unprecedented two consecutive titles in the fifth annual Courts Pee-Wee Schools Football Championships after edging St. Agnes 1-0 on Sunday at Banks DIH Thirst Park Ground.

Angela’s who have practically played unbeaten in 14 matches over the two years owe to their victory to the championship’s leading goal scorer Seon Cato, who netted his 11th and arguably most important goal of the championship in the 12th minute.

The diminutive Cato capitalised on a deflection inside the penalty area and neatly placed the ball at the back of the net to spark a thunderous celebration by both players and supporters.Though, St. Agnes seemed deflated after conceding, consistent performers David Xavier and Nikhail Carter attempted to spark various offensive plays to find the equaliser, in fact in the dying minutes Carter skilfully flicked the ball while lurking inside the box but it when straight to the post.

The Thomas Street unit held their composure to ensure when the final whistle blew they held the title.In the third match, Kenneth Gordon scored in the 24th minute to lead the West Ruimveldt to a 1-0 win over St. Pius.Meanwhile, Courts Finance Manager Neil Boucher was elated over the success of the tournament and the impact it has made in the players lives over the years and also pledged that the company will continue to support the championship.Banks DIH Non- Alcoholic Brand Manger Clayton McKenzie said that his company continues see to the importance of the event and challenged all the young ones to be supreme as their “Malta Supreme”.Co-Director of the Petra Organisation Troy Mendonca hailed the tournament a success once again and was pleased about the array of young talented players on show; Mendonca also disclosed that a female version of the tournament will soon begin.The top four schools were given flat screen televisions along with trophies and medals.
