T20 showdowns, youth battles highlight packed cricket weekend

Cricket fans are in for an action-packed weekend as the Georgetown Cricket Association (GCA) bowls off its fixtures for today, May 2 and Sunday, May 3, 2026, featuring the Sherwin Williams Second Division T20 Cup and the Enline Security Logistics Under-17 50-Over competition.
With matches spread across Malteenoes, Transport, Demerara Cricket Club (DCC) and Queen’s College (QC) grounds, supporters will have no shortage of options as clubs battle for early momentum in their respective campaigns.

Action in the Sherwin T20 Cup

T20 fireworks expected on Saturday
The Sherwin Williams Second Division T20 Cup takes centre stage on Saturday with a full slate of matches at 09:30h and 13:30h.
At Malteenoes, Guyana National Industrial Company Incorporated (GNIC) face Everest in the morning clash before El Dorado and Georgetown Cricket Club (GCC) square off in the afternoon. Both fixtures promise aggressive stroke play as teams look to make strong statements in the shortest format.
The transport ground will host transport’s double-header. They first meet Guyanese Youth Organisation (GYO)/Mystic Marvels Cricket Club (MMCC) in the morning before returning to face diplomats in the afternoon. With home conditions in their favour, Transport will be keen to capitalise and secure maximum points.
Over at DCC, Guyana Defence Force (GDF) take on DCC in the morning encounter, followed by GDF’s second outing of the day against Positive Foundation-Agricola Cricket Club (PFA Agricola). With two matches in one day, squad rotation and fitness could prove decisive for GDF.
Meanwhile, QC’s Pitch One will see Ace Warriors in both time slots. They open against Sophia in the morning before returning to meet UG in the afternoon. Managing energy levels in the T20 format could be crucial as the Warriors attempt to sweep their fixtures.

Youth talent on display in Under-17 50-Over competition
The spotlight shifts partly to the future of the game with the Enline Security Logistics Under-17 50-Over competition.
On Saturday morning at QC’s Pitch Two, QC clash with GT XI in what promises to be a competitive youth encounter.
Sunday will feature four simultaneous 09:30h matches across different venues. DCC meets PFA Agricola at the DCC ground, while Transport hosts GCC. Malteenoes will do battle with GT XI at Malteenoes, and QC face Everest at QC’s Pitch One.
With longer formats demanding patience and discipline, the Under-17 fixtures are expected to showcase emerging talent, technical skill and temperament at the crease.

A weekend of opportunity
With senior players aiming to stamp their authority in the T20 arena and young prospects eager to impress in the 50-over format, the weekend promises a compelling blend of power-hitting, tactical bowling and competitive spirit.
Weather permitting, supporters can expect two full days of exciting cricket action as clubs vie for early-season bragging rights and valuable points on the Georgetown cricket calendar.
