Tanner’s 5-49 gains Tucber Park first innings points

BCB/Banks Beer 1st Division 2-Day tournament…
– Deodat grabs 6-38 for Blairmont

Tucber Park’s right-arm seamer Orlando Tanner figuratively “made the ball talk” on the second and final day of the Berbice Cricket Board’s (BCB’s) Banks Beer 2-Day First Division match between his team and the Blairmont team at Cotton Tree, West Coast Berbice.

Tanner’s 5-49 wrapped up Blairmont’s first innings on 170 all out replying to Tucber Park’s 274. The teams settled for a draw when Tucber Park ended the day on 134-7 after 35 overs.
Resuming the second day on 37-1, after Tucber Park had posted 274 all out, Blairmont proceeded with caution to reach the lunch interval on 64-3 in 27 overs.
In the morning session, when the day began at 11:00h due to some light showers, Tanner removed National Youth Player Nigel Deodat for 18, trapping him in front. Even when the lunch period arrived, Tanner was still moving the ball around; and he was rewarded with the wicket of Altaf Balman, who had played a surviving knock of 10.

After the lunch break, Tanner continued to “make the ball talk”; and he got the big wicket of former Guyana Under-19 Player Javid Karim, the left-hander having struck two crisp fours and one six in his brief innings of 15 before being caught behind by Malcolm Mickle.
Kevin Jawahir and Guyana Under-19 Player Seon Glasgow then came together with the Blairmont score on 82-4, and added 42 runs before Glasgow was dismissed for 21, when his furniture was destroyed by off-spinner Kwesi Mickle. He had struck three fours and one six.
Jawahir weathered the storm to produce a top-score of 33, which was decorated with five fours and one six. He departed with the score at 130-6. Jawahir had deposited Leon Swamy over long-off for a six, but Swamy got the last laugh when he caused Jawahir to hold out to the impressive Tanner.
The final four Blairmont wickets fell for 38 runs. Shabeer Baksh scored a fighting 11, while Chris Harry scored 10. In the process, Tanner, who took the final wicket of the innings, ended with his maiden five-wicket haul for Tucber Park. He had figures of 5-49 in 13.4 overs, while Mickle had 3-44 in 14 overs. Blairmont ended their first innings on 170 all out in 47.4 overs, with a deficit of 104.

Having gained first innings’ points, the visiting Tucber Park team opted to bat for a second time. They lost first innings half-centurion Brandon Corlette for two, trapped in front by Deodat with an arm-ball when the score was on 22-1.
Gevon Schultz, promoted to number three, was then bowled by Deodat for six; and Malcolm Mickle, who played some delightful strokes, became Deodat’s third wicket after scoring a polished 25, which included three boundaries.
The aggressive Clifton Lindie came to the crease and showed some intent, but played one shot too many, and departed for 33, which was laced with four boundaries.
Bowling with great control, Blairmont’s left-arm spinner Deodat continued to chip away at the Tucber Park wickets, and was rewarded with 6-38 in 15 top overs as Tucber Park ended on 134-7 in 35 overs. Benjamin remained not out on 22, and Tanner not out on five.
Tucber Park have now registered two first innings’ victories in as many matches in this tournament.
