Taxi driver assaults passenger after refusing to take him home

A taxi driver is now in Police custody and is expected to be slapped with a malicious wounding charge after he reportedly assaulted a passenger whom he refused to take home.
The incident reportedly occurred on Sunday evening at about 20:45h at Carmarty Village, Corentyne, Berbice, Region Six (East Berbice-Corentyne).
The injured man has been identified as 24-year-old Ajai Sanserran also called “Nicholas”, a labourer of No 36 Village, Corentyne, Berbice.
Based on reports received, the now injured man and his friend were at a popular drinking bar consuming alcohol. However, a known taxi driver entered the establishment and was approached and paid $500 by Sanserran to take him home.
The Police stated that after collecting the money, the taxi driver refused to take the drunken man home and this led to an argument and ultimately a scuffle between them.
The suspect reportedly went into his car, collected a piece of steel and dealt the victim one lash to his head, causing him to receive injuries. He was subsequently taken to the Port Mourant Public Hospital where he was treated and admitted a patient. His condition is regarded as stable.
On the other hand, the suspect was arrested and he remains in custody assisting with investigations.
