The theme for this year’s commemoration is “Give Blood and Keep the World Beating”. It emphasises the importance of blood donation as it is a global call for people to come forward and donate blood regularly.
During a short but meaningful programme, Regional Health Officer (RHO), Dr Ranjeev Singh explained that the aim of International Blood Donor Day is to raise global awareness of the need for safe blood and blood products for transfusion.
He further added that the day also provides an opportunity to make calls to governments and national health authorities to provide adequate resources and put systems and infrastructures in place to increase the collection of blood from voluntary, non-remunerated blood donors.
“Blood is the most precious gift that anyone can give to another person… the gift of life. A decision to donate your blood can save a life… Especially if consists of several components… which can be used individually for patients with specific conditions,” Dr Singh explained
Blood donors were given prizes for their tremendous support to the bank. Blood donors expressed gratitude for honouring, recognising and appreciating their contribution towards the healthcare system.
