Taxi driver/drama instructor granted $300,000 bail

A 63-year-old part-time taxi driver and drama instructor was granted 0,000 bail after he appeared before Magistrate Leron Daly on Tuesday, at the Georgetown Magistrates’ Courts.

Godfrey Henry pleaded not guilty to the charge which stated that on April 28, 2016, at Homestretch Avenue, he drove motor car HC 419 in a dangerous manner to the public, which resulted in the death of Fitzroy Bradford.

Police Prosecutor Shellon Jupiter had no objections to bail; however, she asked the Magistrate to grant the defendant substantial bail. She further recommended that Henry make weekly visits to a police station.

Jupiter reminded that the defendant was previously charged for failing to render assistance to the victim after the accident.

Defence Attorney Savannah Barnwell made an application for bail on the grounds that her client had six children and was the sole provider for his household.

He will make his next court appearance on September 7, 2016.

It was earlier reported that an unidentified man met his demise on Thursday night following an accident along Homestretch Avenue, Georgetown. The accident reportedly occurred about 21:35h.

Investigations revealed that the victim was reportedly crossing the road when he was struck by a speeding car. He sustained injuries and subsequently succumbed.

The driver of the car fled the scene, but based on information provided to Police by an eyewitness, the suspect was detained a short while after and assisted with investigations.

The body of the deceased was taken to the Lyken Funeral Home to await identification and a post-mortem.
