Team Guyana arrives in Bahamas

– boxing set for Wednesday

Guyana’s boxing team to the Youth Commonwealth Games arrived in Bahamas on Sunday and is resting comfortably. Team head coach Sebert Blake told Guyana Times yesterday that his charges Keevin Allicock and Christopher Moore were able to put in light work ahead of today’s official weigh in which commences this morning at 7 am.

The official draws begin at 11 am. “We will know who is fighting whom and on what day. The guys are in high spirits and ready for the ring,” Blake said. Team Guyana was welcomed on the island by several Guyanese living in Bahamas.
Guyana’s overall team of 10 includes athletes, swimmers, Judokas and boxers. Blake said competition in boxing commences on Wednesday.
The Bahamas 2017 Commonwealth Youth Games will be the largest international sporting event ever to be hosted in The Bahamas, and the largest-ever edition of the Youth Games, with up to 1300 athletes aged 14-18 set to make the most of an inspiring and immersive mix of impactful sporting competition and personal development . Athletes from 70 countries will be competing.
