Falcons crush MADA 7s to secure third place at St Lucia Carnival 7s

The Guyana Police Falcons Rugby Club rebounded strongly from their semi-final disappointment to claim third place in the Elite Men’s division of the St Lucia Carnival Sevens with a commanding 29-0 victory over Martinique-based MADA Sevens.
After narrowly missing out on a place in the final following an early yellow card that reduced them to six players, the Falcons delivered a clinical performance in the third-place playoff.
Captain Lionel Holder led the charge by scoring the opening try after breaking down the side-line to give the Guyanese side a 5-0 advantage. Holder struck again soon after to double the lead.

Tyresse Prescod then extended the Falcons’ advantage with a sharp left-foot step that left his defender stranded. He converted his own try to send the Falcons into halftime with a comfortable 17-0 lead.
MADA applied heavy pressure early in the second half, but the Falcons defended strongly and refused to concede.
Holder later completed his hat-trick after slicing through the MADA defence before co-captain Godfrey Broomes capped the dominant display with a well-worked try under the posts. Broomes converted his own try to seal the 29-0 victory.
Several female Falcons players competed for the St Lucian teams Blue Ice and Blue Flame. Blue Ice captured the women’s title, while Guyana’s Jelena Shepherd was named the tournament’s Most Valuable Player.
The Elite Men’s competition featured eight teams from Martinique, Canada, St Vincent and the Grenadines, Guyana, and the United States. This was the Falcons’ third appearance at the St Lucia Carnival Sevens.
