An 18-year-old man accused of robbing a United States citizen has pleaded guilty and been fined $75,000 after appearing before Chief Magistrate Ann Mc Lennan in that Georgetown Magistrate’s Court on Wednesday.
Stephon Hope, 18, of ‘B’ Field Sophia, Greater Georgetown, was arraigned before the Chief Magistrate charged with robbery with violence, contrary to Section 222 (a) of the Criminal Law (Offences) Act. The allegation he faced detailed that he robbed a 61-year-old woman at the Rima Guest House in Georgetown. Having pleaded guilty to the offence, he has accordingly been fined; and failure to pay the fine will see him spending eight weeks in prison.
Meanwhile, in another matter, Alfred Joseph, called ‘Tata’, 22, of 44 Zeelugt, East Bank Essequibo, was charged for stealing from a businessman of Zeelugt, EBE. Joseph was arraigned on Wednesday before Leonora Magistrate Zameena Ali-Seepaul, and after pleading guilty to the charge, has been fined $80,000 or an alternative of four months’ imprisonment. (G1)
