Teen fined, sentenced to community service for narco-possession

– minibus driver granted bail on similar charge

Eighteen-year-old Cyril Miguel of St Ignatius Village, Central Rupununi, Region Nine (Upper Takutu-Upper Essequibo), was on Tuesday fined 15,000 and sentenced to three weeks’ community service on a possession of narcotics charge.
He appeared before Magistrate Allan Wilson at the Lethem Magistrate’s Court where he pleaded guilty to the charge which stated that on August 20, 2021, he had in his possession two grams of cannabis.
As such, he was fined and sentenced to community service which is to be supervised by the officer-in-charge of Lethem Police Station.
Meanwhile, Roger Garraway, 53, a minibus driver of Lethem was granted bail in the sum of 100,000 by Magistrate Wilson for having 700 grams of cannabis in his possession. He pleaded not guilty to the charge when it was read to him at the Lethem Magistrate’s Court.
He is expected to return to court on September 17, 2021.
