The ExxonMobil National School Basketball Festival: Chase, Kid Rock, President’s College, Bishops’ seal semifinal spots
Action in the ExxonMobil National School Basketball Festival continued at the Cliff Anderson Sports Hall on Thursday evening with a variety of thrilling matchups, which saw Chase Academy, Kid Rock Academy, President’s College and Bishops’ High School booking their spots in the semifinal matches of this tournament.
In the first game, Chase Academy and Mackenzie High locked horns, but Chase routed Mackenzie High 15 points to their 8 points.
Scoring for Chase Academy, Paul Emmanuel contributed 12 points and 6 rebounds, and Anthony Vasconcellos added 3 points, 6 rebounds and 12 steals. Scoring for Mackenzie High, Tyrol Lamazon contributed 4 points and 3 rebounds.
The first game had a lot of fire, but the second game did not disappoint, as it also was another close encounter. Kid Rock Academy held their nerves to defeat Kwakwani Secondary 30 points to their 23. Leading the charge for Kid Rock, Teishon Kitt contributed 10 points and 5 rebounds, and Jameel Peters added 7 points and 6 rebounds. Cordel Hoyte was the main man for Kwakwani with 11 points and 4 rebounds.
Game three witnessed President’s College and Marian Academy duking it out in a one-sided affair in which President’s College were able to match their opponents’ offence and defence to prevail 48 points to 26 points.
Scoring for President’s College, Dejaun Grant made 19 points and 11 rebounds, while Ezekiel Saul contributed 12 points, 4 rebounds and 5 rebounds; Marion Fiedtkou scored 17 points, 5 rebounds, 3 steals; and Kaden Khan scored 11 points as Marian Academy led from the front.
The final game of the night witnessed probably one of the most thrilling games ever, with Bishops’ High School taking on Queen’s College.
There had, for weeks, been banter, but Bishops’ laid down the law and showed why they should not be slept on, as they edged Queen’s College 31 points to 25 points. Scoring for Bishops were Micah Williams with 11 points, 11 rebounds; Yaniel Easton with 11 points, 5 rebounds; and Keyan Mars with 6 points, 19 rebounds.
Scoring for QC in a losing effort were Owen Hooper with 9 points, 5 rebounds and Ezekiel Griffith with 8 points, 5 rebounds.
ExxonMobil Guyana are the major sponsor of this year’s tournament, although support has also come from the National Sports Commission, G-Boat Guyana, Edward B. Beharry & Company Ltd, and Banks DIH Ltd.
