Time for Angus to prove leadership in RAN 15s team

– 23-man squad ready for Cayman Islands

The Guyana Rugby Football Union (GRFU) has released its Jamal Angus-led 23-man squad for their clash against the higher-ranked Cayman Islands team.
Guyana’s National 15s Rugby team, the Green Machine, will clash with the strong Cayman Islands team on February 9, 2019. After months of intense training and matches at the National Park, the first batch of players will depart the Land of Many Waters on February 6 and the second batch will wing out on February 7.
Angus, the Panthers’ rugby sensation, was described as vibrant and capable enough to lead the team to victory by Head Coach Kenneth Grant Stewart. The National 15s Head Coach made the disclosure at the GRFU media presser, where he spoke highly of the newly-appointed captain.
It was revealed that Angus has over 11 national caps and has shown tremendous strides in the team. Angus, who has been around the game of rugby for eight years, believes that this time around, the Green Machine have come up with better tactical plays. Despite Cayman Islands playing rugby throughout the year in contrast to Guyana’s stop and start seasons, the new Green Machine Captain is confident of winning since the preparation this time around has been of high quality. The 23-man squad will consist of two newbies in David Garnett and Glenroy Poole. Regular winger Patrick King, who has been away from training for some time owing to personal reasons, was not included in the squad. The full squad reads: Jamal Angus (Captain); Jason Tyrell; Rondel Mc Arthur; Walter George; Richard Staglon (Trinidad and Tobago); James Osborn; Joseph Rahaman; Vallon Adams (USA); Selwyn Henry; Godrey Broomes; Cloyd Prowell; Osei McKenzie; David Garnett; Glenroy Poole; Lancelot Adonis; Jamal Darrell; Kevin David; Sean Phillips; Ryan Dey; Phibain Joseph; Ryan Gonsalves; Ronald Mayers and Grantly Adams. Other members are Kenneth Grant Stewart (Head Coach); Solomon Austin (Manager) and Physiotherapist Barrington Brown.
