Police are investigating the drowning death of a one-year-old child at Cracrana Village, South Pakaraimas, Region Nine (Upper Takutu-Upper Essequibo) on Wednesday.
Dead is Ethan Christian.
According to Police, the incident occurred between 11:30h and 11:43h. Preliminary investigations revealed that the child was at home with his mother when she reportedly left him lying on a bed inside the house and went to use a nearby toilet.
Upon her return, she discovered that the child was no longer on the bed. A search was immediately conducted in and around the house.
The child was subsequently found lying face down and motionless in a pool of water, approximately three feet deep and about 100 feet away from the house.
He was rushed to the Karasabai Public Hospital, where a doctor on duty pronounced him dead on arrival.
Police said the body was examined and no marks of violence were observed. The body is currently being kept at the Karasabai Public Hospital Mortuary.
Investigations into the circumstances surrounding the child’s death are ongoing.
