Trio arraigned with murder of “Buckman”

Two teenagers – a 15-year-old and a 16-year-old – of Gafoors Compound, East Bank Demerara; and of Cross Street, Georgetown, along with a 19-year-old accomplice, John McKenzie of Leopold Street, Georgetown, was on Friday arraigned with the murder of “Buckman” who was stabbed to death.
The trio appeared before Chief Magistrate Ann McLennan at the Georgetown Magistrates’ Courts where they were not required to plea to the indictable charge which stated that on November 17, 2018, they murdered “Buckman”.
The two teenagers were both remanded to the Juvenile Holding Centre while McKenzie was remanded to prison. They are expected to make their next court appearance on December 11.
It was reported that the now dead man, whose is only known as “Buckman”, lived as a vagrant and frequented the Leopold Street, Werk-en-Rust area in Georgetown, where he met his demise after a reported argument over drugs.
Reports are the dead man, who is around 45 years old, was stabbed multiple times in an alleged row over the selling of drugs.
While details into the killing remain sketchy, it was pointed out that the suspects supposedly became annoyed after “Buckman” and few others stopped buying drugs from them. Individuals familiar with the matter stated that the four men were not from Leopold Street.
The man died while receiving medical attention at the Georgetown Public Hospital.
