Trio injured during brawl over stolen bicycle

Three men were on Friday evening injured during a brawl at Alexander Street, New Amsterdam, Berbice over an allegedly stolen bicycle.
Twenty-eight-year-old Seon Ramlall, a carpenter, of Alex Street, Angoy’s Avenue, NA, and Akeem Bovell, 20, of Savannah Park, NA, Berbice were reportedly treated and sent away while Andrew Lewis, 23, a labourer of Angoy’s Avenue, was transferred to the Georgetown Public Hospital owing to the severity of his injuries.
Based on reports received, the brawl stemmed from an accusation of theft. Police stated that about four weeks ago, ranks were called to disperse a crowd of people who were protesting on Pitt Street, NA, and as the crowd fled, a bicycle was left behind.
After the Police left the scene, the bicycle was reportedly collected by Bovell. On Saturday evening about 20:00h, Bovell and his brother were riding along Main Street, NA on the said bicycle when they were confronted by two males of Angoy’s Avenue.
They reportedly accused Bovell of stealing their bicycle on the night of the protest and this led to a heated argument among them. After the argument, Bovell and his brother continued their journey to a Queh at Alexander Street.
While there, the two brothers were confronted by a group of men, including the ones with whom they had the argument earlier. Bovell was again accused of stealing the bicycle and again this led to another heated argument and subsequently a brawl.
As a result, Bovell, Ramlall, and Lewis sustained injuries about their bodies and were taken to the New Amsterdam Hospital, where they were examined by a doctor and treated. Lewis, who was said to be in serious condition, was transferred.
The Police have since confirmed that Ramlall, Bovell, and his brother were arrested and were assisting with the investigation. The Police are still on the hunt for the other suspects who were involved in the brawl.
