Truck driver gets bail for causing death of Cuban national

Twenty-five-year-old Steffon Onassis Henry from La Parfaite Harmonie, West Bank Demerara, was on Tuesday granted bail in connection with a fatal accident that occurred on Friday, April 17, 2026, at the Anteater Roundabout, Heroes Highway.
It was reported that at the time of the accident, Henry was driving motor lorry GAM 4158, owned by Sundar Roopnarine of Timehri, East Bank Demerara, when he came into contact with 46-year-old Cuban national Urquiaga Zulueta Yohanis, who was at the time riding an unregistered electric cycle.

Henry appeared before Magistrate Dylon Bess at the Diamond/Grove Magistrate’s Court, where the charge was read to him.
He reportedly pleaded not guilty to the charges after the Administration of Justice Act (AJA) was applied. As such, he was granted bail in the sum of $350,000. As a condition for bail, Henry is required to report to the Madewini Police Outpost every Friday until the determination of the matter.
The matter was adjourned to May 12, 2026.
