Tucber Park whip Betsy Ground on back of Mickle’s 5-for – Rose Hall Canje humbled Mt Sinai

BCB/Shimron Hetmyer Intermediate Competition

The boys from New Amsterdam’s Tucber Park have humiliated their Betsy Ground rivals by nine wickets in their second round clash of the Berbice Cricket Board’s (BCB’s) Shimron Hetmyer 40-Over Intermediate tournament.
Under suitable conditions at the Goed Bananen Land ground in East Canje, Tucber Park bowled out Betsy Ground for 87 in 26.3 overs, with off-spinner Kwesi Mickle capturing match winning figures of 5 for 14 in eight overs. Although normally good at the game of cricket, the Goed Bananen Land batsmen failed to deal with the impressive bowling of Mickle, who received support from pacemen Shamar Joseph, with 2 for 11, and Raymon Vankenie, with 2 for 3, gleaned from five miserly overs. Bajan leg-spinner Winslow Roberts contributed 1 wicket for 1 run in Tucber Park’s win.
In response, Tucber Park scored 88 runs in 13.2 overs. Opening batsman Malcolm Mickle stroked 29, while Abdul Ramsammy hit an unbeaten 30, and the class act, Garfield Benjamin, scored 18 not out in Tucber Park’s comprehensive nine-wicket win.
In the other fixture in the NA/Canje zone, Rose Hall Canje registered a 4-wicket win over Mt Sinai. Ameer Rahaman was the star with both bat and ball as Mt Sinai took first strike and scored 152 all out, with Winston Mingo scoring 31. Off-spinner Ameer Rahaman had 3-24, while veteran wrong-footed left-arm spinner Balram Samaroo had 3-17.
In response, captain Rahaman continued his good game with an unbeaten 36 to lead the home team past Mt Sinai. The Rose Hall Canje team ended the exciting match on 153-6 in 38 overs. Opening batsman Michael Cambell had earlier stroked 47 in Rose Hall Canje’s victory, and Mark Sampson scored 17 not out. Bowling in a losing cause for Mt Sinai, Stamon Daniels had 3-17.
