Tuschen man robbed by driver, passenger after boarding taxi

A taxi ride turned into a robbery on Monday morning after a passenger was ambushed and robbed by the driver and another passenger.
The incident unfolded at about 01:50h at Tuschen Scheme, East Bank Essequibo (EBE).
The victim, Ali Mohamed, alleged that he left his sister’s residence to go home and walked to the “blacka” junction to await transportation. Shortly after, he stopped a mauve Toyota Fielder Wagon and indicated his destination.
When Ali boarded the vehicle, another unidentifiable male was seated in the back behind the driver. While he was in the vicinity of Tuschen “blacka”, the driver turned the corner right of the junction and stopped.
It was at that stage, the victim claimed that he was dealt several cuffs about his body by the said taxi driver who is popularly known as “Robin” and the other individual.
He was relieved of $20,000 in cash and was subsequently thrown out of the vehicle. The two suspects made good their escape, leaving him on the roadway in pain. The man, with the assistance of passersby, contacted the Police.
Checks were made for the suspects and the vehicle, which proved futile. Several persons in the area were questioned but no useful information was received. Investigations are ongoing.
