Unidentified man killed in Canal Polder accident

An unidentified man was on Wednesday evening killed after he was struck by a minibus while riding along the Canal Number One Polder access road, West Bank Demerara. The accident reportedly occurred at about 19:15h.

The deceased is of East Indian descent and is suspected to be in his 40s.

Based on reports received, the man was riding his bicycle when the minibus, bearing registration number BKK 9004, reportedly overtook a parked vehicle and came into the path of the pedal cyclist, who was riding in the opposite direction.

As a result, the man was thrown off his bicycle and sustained injuries to the right side of his forehead. The driver of the motor vehicle, Mark Henry, of La Parfaite Harmonie, WBD, immediately picked up the man who was in an unconscious state and rushed him to the West Demerara Regional Hospital where he was admitted.

The injured man reportedly fell into a coma and later succumbed to his injuries. The driver of the minibus is in Police custody assisting with investigations.

Up to press time, Public Relations Officer of the Guyana Police Force confirmed that no family member has come forth to identify the body which is being kept at the West Demerara Regional Hospital Mortuary.

The Police are continuing their investigations.
