Unidentified pedestrian succumbed to injuries following accident

An unidentified man, who was struck by a minibus on the La Penitence Public Road, Georgetown on Friday last, has succumbed to his injuries while receiving medical attention at the Georgetown Public Hospital.
Reports are at approximately 00:45h on Friday last in the vicinity of Twins Pharmacy, La Penitence, the man was struck by minibus BSS 2498.
Initial investigations revealed that the minibus was proceeding along the roadway when the pedestrian dashed into its path in an effort to cross the road. He was reportedly struck by the left-side wing mirror of the vehicle, causing him to fall onto the roadway where he sustained injuries.
He was picked up in an unconscious state by the driver of the minibus and taken to the Georgetown Public Hospital, where he was admitted.
Since the accident, no relative of the now dead man turned up at the hospital to identify him and as such, it was difficult for the doctors to proceed with any further treatment.
He remained in an unconscious state until his demise on Monday. His body is at the Public Hospital’s mortuary awaiting identification and a post-mortem.
A breathalyser test was administered to the driver, but there was no trace of alcohol in his system. He was released on station bail pending investigations.
