Unlicensed driver fined $60,000, taxi driver hit with $200,000 DUI fine

Twenty-seven-year-old Cleevon George, a miner from Hoppie Street, Dartmouth Village, Essequibo, Region Two (Pomeroon-Supenaam), was on Monday slapped with a $60,000 fine or faces three months in jail for driving without a licence and driving an uninsured motor vehicle.
He was reportedly arrested on Monday, April 20, 2026, during a Police operation along the Charity Public Road, Essequibo Coast.
During his appearance on Monday at the Charity Magistrate’s Court before Magistrate Ravindra Mohabir, he pleaded guilty to both charges and was fined $30,000 on each charge or faced an alternative of three months’ imprisonment.
Meanwhile, Jair Robeiro, 22, a taxi driver from New Road, Essequibo Coast, was charged with driving under the influence of alcohol. He was arrested on April 28, 2026, along the Charity Access Road, Essequibo Coast.
He also appeared at the Charity Magistrate’s Court and pleaded guilty to the charge when it was read to him by Magistrate Ravindra Mohabir. As such, he was fined $200,000 or faces an alternative of three months’ imprisonment.
