United States (US) Ambassador to Guyana, Sarah-Ann Lynch last week paid a courtesy call on recently sworn-in President of the Cooperative Republic of Guyana, His Excellency, Dr Mohamed Irfaan Ali. It was noted that areas of mutual interest were discussed.
President Ali took the Oath of Office two Sundays ago and was officially inaugurated on Saturday last.
According to a report which was shared on the Facebook page of the US Embassy Guyana, Ambassador Lynch recommitted to furthering the development of Guyana and to continue working with the new People’s Progressive Party/Civic (PPP/C) Government.
During his Inauguration speech on Saturday, President Ali expressed gratitude to the US and other international and regional countries for the role they played in restoring democracy in Guyana following the March 2 General and Regional Elections.
“Some of those who stayed alert with us, through those dark days are with us as a new dawn dispels the darkness of despair and shines a light of unbounded expectation on us today. I take this opportunity to acknowledge the resident diplomatic corps from the United Kingdom, Canada, the European Union and the United States who so fearlessly defended our people’s political rights. Thank you. Other organisations stood up with us, among them the Organisation of American States, The Carter Center and the Commonwealth Group of Nations. They were each outstanding in their own way, and in time their names will form a lexicon of heroes of our nation.”
Additionally, in a congratulatory message to Guyanese and the PPP/C, Ambassador Lynch said the US, like other ABCE countries, looks forward to working with the new Government.
“As friends of Guyana, we look forward to working with all to continue to support Guyana’s development for the benefit of all its people,” the statement said.
Ambassador Lynch officially took office in Guyana on March 13, 2019. Guyana and the United States have been enjoying diplomatic relations for over 50 years.
