Demerara Cricket Club (DCC) surged to an emphatic 6 wicket win over Transport Sports Club (TSC) in Friday’s Georgetown Cricket Association (GCA)/Toucan U15 100 overs finals.
The exciting tournament ended on the champs’ home turf, where Jonathan Van Lange steered his side home with a confident 41 with Akash Persaud chipping in 29, to help their side chase 129-4 inside 35 overs.
TSC earlier racked up 128-8 in 50 overs with youth player Shemar Yearwood setting the tone with 68 inclusive of five fours and a six. Jonathan Adams (14) and Fidel Colins (09) were the other contributors.
DCC’s bowling was led by right-arm seamer Mykien Khan with 2-9. After some hiccups at the top of the order, DCC we’re guided by the 86-run partnership between Van Lange and Persaud who kept the chase simple.
At the ceremony, GCA President Roger Harper thanked the sponsors, players and parents for ensuring that the tourney was a success.
Andrew King, CEO of Toucan Industries said that his company will continue to support the event next year, adding that sports is integral and as such players should continue playing and embracing cricket.
Avinash Persaud of Everest and Arian Persaud of the Georgetown Cricket Club (GCC) swept majority of awards for runs, wickets exceptional fielding throughout the competition.
