Vendor remanded for illegal gun, ammo

A 32-year-old Charlestown, Georgetown vendor, who reportedly attempted to discard of an unlicensed firearm along with matching ammunition right after he reportedly assaulted his spouse was on Monday remanded to prison.
David Bernard appeared before Georgetown Magistrate Judy Latchman and denied that on November 1, 2018 at Broad Street, Charlestown he had in his possession a 9mm pistol without being the licensed forearm holder. It was further alleged that the Bernard on the same date and same location had 15 rounds of 9mm ammunition in his possession without being licensed holder.
Brenard also denied a charge of assault, which stated that on November 1, 2018 at Lot 17 Broad Street, Charlestown he unlawfully assaulted Jessica Belle.
Police Prosecutor Quinn Harris told the court that on November 1, a report was made by Belle for the arrest of the defendant in relation to a domestic dispute. However, when Bernard was being approached by Police ranks he was seen taking out the weapon from his pocket and throwing it next to a zinc fence. He was arrested, and the gun and ammunition were retrieved.
Objections were made in relation to the firearm and ammunition charges citing the seriousness and prevalence of such occurrences.
Magistrate Latchman upheld the prosecution’s submission and remanded Brenard to prison on both firearm related charges. He was released on $20,000 bail for the assault charge. The cases will continue on November 8.
