The highly anticipated Guyana Cup 2017 did not disappoint as a packed race card at the Rising Sun Turf Club featured nine thoroughbred races.
The highlight of the day was the feature D ‘1’ and Lower event (Race 7) which featured the cream of the crop of Guyana’s racehorses.
With a packed and buzzing crowd cheering on, newly imported chestnut mare Vera’s Finally announced her arrival as the country’s top sprinter winning the event by at least three quarters of a length ahead of a field of 11.
Apprentice and champion jockey, Colin Ross had one of his better days in a saddle as he held off a late surge to win comfortably.
Racing out of Champion stable Jumbo Jet Racing Stables, the newcomer Vera’s Finally seemed to be out of contention for a top spot for the first 1200 metres. However, she but showed quality after being asked in the final turn of the 1600 metres race, to pass early race leader, Just Call Me Boss.
It was straight victory from that point as Ross guided his charge over the finish line for a well-deserved win ahead of Just Call Me Boss.
