Wakenaam man gets 5-year jail time for wounding ex’s boyfriend

Franklin Griffith of Sans Souci, Wakenaam Island, Essequibo has been sentenced to five years’ imprisonment after pleading guilty to wounding the man his ex-reputed wife is now seeing.
Initially indicted for attempted murder, the 35-year-old opted to plead guilty to the lesser count of felonious wounding in his arraignment before Justice Priya Sewnarine-Beharry at the Essequibo High Court. He admitted that on February 23, 2020, at Sans Souci, he unlawfully and maliciously wounded 66-year-old Thakur Lokram with intent to maim, disfigure, or disable him.
On the day in question, the two men were involved in a heated argument, during which Griffith pulled out a chopper and dealt Lokram several chops to his head, face, shoulders, and arms. “I will f@$k out you neck,” Griffith told Lokram while chopping him.
“When me see Pull Out [Lokram] coming through the back street to go by he vehicle, me rush out to he and fire three chops to he,” said Griffith in a caution statement to the Police.
The incident between the two men stemmed from an old grievance. It was disclosed that Griffith had previously been employed by Lokram, whom he accused of having an affair with his reputed wife of 10 years. Griffith had always blamed Lokram for breaking up his relationship with the woman.
Throughout the court proceedings, Griffith was represented by Attorney Latchmi Dindayal. (G1)
