West Berbice Chamber assists fire victims

― calls for enhanced fire and crime-fighting capabilities

The West Berbice Chamber of Industry and Commerce (WBCIC) last Sunday made a monetary donation towards Roopchand Hemraj, 30, and his wife, Devi Hemraj, 23, of Lot 75 Les Beholden North, Black Bush Polder, who lost their home and belongings in a recent fire.
The couple has three children together ages nine, 19 months and three months.
Through the initiative, the WBCIC was honouring its corporate social responsibility. The donation was a joint undertaking between the Chamber and business organisations which responded to the call, including Greens Massive, Big ‘B’ Restaurant, Silver Lining Auto Rental, Ricky Moore Fish Depot and the Port Mourant Cricket Club.
The presentation was made at the West Berbice Chamber Cavalcade of Sports and Fun Day held at the Blairmont Community Centre.

e projects and for development of young people.
He noted that a Christmas treat will be given to children next month, from the proceeds of the Cavalcade of Sports.
The WBCIC made a call for enhanced firefighting capabilities by the Guyana Fire Service and better crime fighting initiatives by the Guyana Police Force, in the wake of the recent surge in criminal activity.
Sakoor said: “The Chamber also calls for a review of the recent pronouncement by His Excellency on the limitation of firearms to business owners and believes that the notion should be reviewed with a more favourable expression to bring comfort amongst the businessmen and women who stands at risk to be victims.”
He said too that a cleaner and crime free society will make the lives of all Guyanese happier: “We should all put our shoulders together to work for that national achievement as all will benefit in the long-term. We trust that the matter of citizen security will be given the relevant attention by the administrators.
Meanwhile Roopchand Hemraj, a labourer, said he is committed to rebuilding the destroyed home; and his wife is calling on the public to assist.
