Qualifier 2 of the Hero Caribbean Premier League 2019 will be played between Trinbago Knight Riders and Barbados Tridents at the Brian Lara Stadium, Tarouba in Trinidad.
JP Duminy goes big against TKR while Dinesh Ramdin looks on
Trinbago Knight Riders underscored that they are a big match team in the Eliminator. TKR were struggling after winning their first four matches and had lost their last four games on the bounce. When it mattered, the team came back to they own. They were bolstered with the return of Sunil Narine, who did not appear to have fully recovered from his finger injury.
Chasing a below-par target of 126 in the Eliminator, Knight Riders were struggling at 31-3 at one point. However, Lendl Simmons’ 47-ball 51 and Denesh Ramdin’s 38-ball 32 ensured the team went across the line on a difficult pitch.
Narine and Chris Jordan were the stars on a difficult batting pitch as they picked two and three wickets respectively. In fact, Narine conceded just 10 runs from his four overs.
Without a doubt, following Guyana’s tactics of spin leading the bowling attack, Narine’s return has skewed the scales in favour of Trinbago Knight Riders for Qualifier 2 who will be partnered with the impressive Khary Pierre.
The underdogs
Barbados Tridents lost against Guyana Amazon Warriors in Qualifier 1, conceding 218 to the Warriors.
While chasing, despite a 19-ball 36 from Alex Hales and a 26-ball 49 from Jonathan Carter, their big guns did not fire as they lost the game by 30 runs.
This will be a good opportunity for the Tridents, who defeated TKR in Trinidad in the league phase, to have a shot at the title should their combination work in accordance on the day of reckoning.
