“Wild Buck” stabbed to death during fight over cook

A miner was on Sunday evening stabbed to death during a fight with a colleague who was reportedly mistreating a cook at their mining camp at Ithaki Backdam, Mazaruni River, Region Seven (Cuyuni-Mazaruni).
The dead man has been identified as Damieon popularly known as “Wild Buck” of Paramakatoi Village, Region 8 (Potaro-Siparuni).
Police stated that the now dead man and the suspect worked together. However, on the day in question at about 20:30h, the two men had a disagreement over the way the suspect treated a female cook at the mining camp.
The disagreement quickly escalated into a fight between the two men during which the 27-year-old suspect reportedly whipped out a knife and stabbed the victim once to his neck.
As a result, the injured man fell to the ground and immediately became motionless. He was taken to the Bartica Regional Hospital where he was pronounced dead on arrival. An examination performed on his body showed a gaping wound to the neck.
The body is at the hospital’s mortuary awaiting a post-mortem. The suspect was arrested and he is expected to make his court appearance before the end of the week.
