Murder accused: Shaleza Ellis

Ellis appeared before Principal Magistrate Faith McGusty and was not required to plead to the indictable charge. She was remanded to prison until February 3, 2020, and will appear before Chief Magistrate Ann McLennan.
It was reported that the mother of two was at a party on Christmas Eve Day in the company of her cousin and sister-in-law.
While at the party which lasted until Christmas Day, Haywood approached her cousin’s child father and asked him to buy her a drink.
However, this reportedly angered the suspect, who is the man’s current girlfriend.
As a result, an altercation ensued between Ellis and Haywood’s cousin during which Ellis attempted to stab the cousin but ended up stabbing Haywood. The now dead woman received injuries in the region of her heart.
The injured Haywood was rushed to the Georgetown Public Hospital Corporation (GPHC) where she was admitted but succumbed on January 23. The murder accused was only recently arrested and charges were instituted.
