A North East La Penitence, Georgetown woman is currently battling for her life at the Georgetown Public Hospital Corporation (GPHC) after she was brutally chopped and stabbed several times about her body by her abusive husband, who later committed suicide.

Dead is Glen Forde, also known as “Blackboy”, a fish vendor at the Meadow Bank Wharf of Calabash Alley, North East La Penitence, Georgetown. Injured is his 30-year-old reputed wife, Collen Daly.
Reports are the incident occurred at about 17:30h after a heated argument ensued between the couple. This newspaper was told that Forde accused his reputed wife of infidelity which led to the argument that eventually escalated. According to residents in the area, during the heated exchange, Forde picked up a knife, which he used to clean fish and dealt the woman several chops and stabs to her abdomen and other parts of her body. Believing that Daly was dead, the man then climbed onto the roof of his house, threw a two-by-four wood on the woman, and slit his throat. He then fell to the ground and died on the spot.

The wife was picked up by public-spirited persons and rushed to the hospital while undertakers from the Lyken Funeral Home collected Forde’s body.
A neighbour recalled that after seeing the man slitting his throat, she called the Guyana Police Force’s (GPF) 911 number but it rang out.
“All I hear is some lashes and I asked my husband what is going on and he said ‘I don’t know’ and I see he jumped on a ladder and looking over the back and all I hear is ‘Blackboy chopping up Collen’ and I saw him on the top of the roof and I ran out here,” one resident stated.
The couple has three children together – 11 and seven-year-old boys along with a six-year-old girl. At the time of the incident, the children were at their grandmother’s house. This publication was told that the couple shared a very abusive relationship and was constantly heard quarrelling.
Another neighbour told this publication that some time ago, Daly was seen running on the road naked with Forde in hot pursuit as he attempted to beat her.
Further, another resident related that the couple’s arguments usually turned violent.
For this year, Guyana has recorded eight domestic violence incidents which ended in death.
Meanwhile, comparing statistics from the Social Protection Ministry for the same period last year, the Ministry recorded eight women being killed – six allegedly by their current or former partners. (Shemar Alleyne)
