A heated argument turned deadly on Sunday afternoon when a woman armed herself with a knife and stabbed her reputed husband to death at their Plaisance, East Coast Demerara (ECD) home.
Victor Roberts, 38, of Lot 41 Prince Williams Street, Plaisance, was stabbed once to his chest by the suspect, who was identified only as “Melissa”.
The couple were heard arguing moments before the heinous crime was committed. According to reports, it has become a norm for the two to fight. The man reportedly operated a grocery shop in the village.
When Guyana Times visited at the scene on Sunday, the handcuffed suspect was in a distraught state as she was being grilled by investigators.
Persons who gathered at the scene stated that this was the second time the now dead man was attacked and stabbed by the woman. “This is the second time that she bore he … if you done bore me one time, you think I would wait around for you to bore me again?” one neighbour questioned.
Another neighbour who reportedly witnessed part of the incident stated that the murder could have been avoided.
“He get a severe jook, I saw the knife and I pick it up and said this is what she use … it’s a long knife that she use and about over three inches went in he chest … these people don’t think in these times, in they rage they does just act … they could’ve lived to fight another day,” the neighbour stated.
Relatives of the dead man were heard arguing while a sister told this publication that “two lives were lost here today instead of one”.
The suspect, a mother of four (three from a previous relationship and one with Roberts), was later led into a police vehicle, which left the scene.
The man’s body was taken to the Lyken Funeral Home to await a post-mortem.
