Human Services and Social Security Minister, Dr Vindhya Persaud, interacted with seniors and shared information on services available to support and protect them. She also encouraged older persons to be aware of their rights and to take steps to protect themselves from exploitation. Persaud urged seniors not to allow anyone to take advantage of them, particularly in matters relating to their pension benefits and property. Participants took part in a range of activities, including conversations, singing, dancing and talent showcases. The programme also provided an opportunity for seniors from different parts of the country to connect and socialise. Assistant Chief Probation and Social Services Officer Ricardo Banwarie and Deputy Director of Social Services Hamwanttie Bisesar were also present and engaged with attendees throughout the event. According to the Ministry, the initiative is part of its ongoing efforts to promote the dignity, well-being and protection of older persons while raising awareness about the need to prevent elder abuse in all its forms.
