The Cliff Anderson Sports Hall (CASH) will return to a hive of activity on Friday, as the Youth Basketball Guyana (YBG) National School Basketball Festival (NSBF) will commence with four exciting games.
In the girls’ category, St. Roses High faces Presidents’ College then in the boys’ under-14, Marian Academy plays President’s College. The two remaining fixtures will be competed in the under-16 category and pits North Georgetown Secondary against St. Joseph High then Plaisance Secondary versus Presidents’ College.
The tournament which was rescheduled due to Guyana hosting the Caribbean Basketball Championships (CBC) under-16 in July will now run from September 23 to October 9.
The Championship has grown from 18 teams participating in a single elimination tournament in 2006 to over 50 teams playing in four divisions (Under-14, U-16, U-19 and Girls) and six regional zone tournaments.
The participating teams in the under-14 category are: Mackenzie High, St. Roses High, Marian Academy, President’s College, Kwakwani Secondary and Bishops’ high.
In the under-16: Mackenzie High, Kwakwani Secondary, Marian Academy, St. Roses High, Plaisance Secondary, Bishops’ High, President’s College, Saints Stanislaus College, Tutorial High, Queen’s College, St. Joseph High, North Georgetown Secondary and Bladen Hall Secondary.
Under-19: Kwakwani Secondary, Linden Technical Institution, Government Technical Institution, Mackenzie High, New Amsterdam Multilateral, St. Roses High, President’s College, Bishops’ High, Queen’s College, Plaisance Secondary, Berbice High, J C. Chandersingh Secondary and Saints Stanislaus College.
