The Golden Jaguars 18-man squad who will be tackling the highly rated “Soca Warriors” today, were out in the evening drizzle at the match venue on Monday in Couva in Central Trinidad where Dover told Guyana Times Sport  that the team is really ready for the challenge as they seek to become a powerhouse in Caribbean football.

“We are in the rebuilding phase of our football and this is a very important game for us and for us to get a good result with the new players which will encourage many more players to show their intention of representing Guyana in football,” Dover said.

Dover said that the overseas based players have settled in and are gelling well with the Guyana-based players in giving 100 percent and showing great commitment of doing well on match days.

The head coach also sung praises for the work of Assistant Coach Charles “Lily” Pollard who is also a former national captain. “Lily” is remarkable, with his experience as a player for so long and now as a coach is really well for us, the lads are looking up to him and his ethics is tremendous, we are really happy to have him here,” Dover stated.

The hosts are on a high after beating USA 2-1 to end their (USA) chance of another world cup final and drawing 2-2 with Grenada in Grenada last weekend while Guyana’s last encounter ended in a hard fought defeat to Grenada 1-0 in St. Georges.

Cox also spoke well of the efforts of the Guyana Football Federation (GFF) and coaches Dover and pollard and said that “the young team will give a good account of themselves which will hopefully bring joy to the faces of the Guyanese supporters.”
