1-year-old crushed by father’s reversing minibus

A one-year-old was on Friday morning crushed to death by a Route 40 minibus his father was reversing at their Kitty, Georgetown home.
The child, Malachi Willis, of Lot 21 D’Andrade Street, Kitty, was reportedly behind the bus while his father, Wayne Willis, reversed the vehicle.
Upon hearing the child’s cry, the frantic father stopped the minibus and went to check, and it was then that he realised the toddler was injured.
He was rushed to the Woodlands Hospital, but succumbed to his injuries. The child’s body has been taken to the Lyken Funeral Home to await a post-mortem.
At the Funeral Home, an aunt of the dead child refused to comment on the tragic accident, stating only that she was not there and was not in a position to give any information with respect to what had occurred.
The child’s distraught mother was inconsolable. It is unclear if the one-year-old was the only child for the couple. The father, Guyana Times understands, is assisting the Police with their investigations. The minibus has been impounded at the Kitty Police Station.
