Police have destroyed an estimated $106.8 million worth of cannabis during a large-scale eradication exercise conducted in the Upper Berbice River, Region Ten (Upper Demerara-Berbice). 
The operation was carried out on Wednesday at Kimba Creek, Sand Hill and Wiruni, where ranks uncovered an extensive cannabis cultivation operation spread across approximately five acres of land.
According to police, the exercise resulted in the discovery of about 5,000 suspected cannabis sativa plants, ranging from two to six feet in height, along with approximately 40,000 cannabis seedlings housed in nursery trays.
Ranks also found 245 pounds of dried cannabis, 10 pounds of dried cannabis seeds, three makeshift camps, and a quantity of farming tools believed to have been used in the cultivation and processing of the illegal crop.
Photographs released by the Guyana Police Force showed a sprawling cannabis field carved out of the forested areas, nursery beds containing thousands of seedlings, and makeshift camps erected to support the cultivation operation.
Police said all of the suspected cannabis plants, dried cannabis, seeds, farming equipment and camps were destroyed by fire at the scene.
The force estimated the total street value of the narcotics destroyed at $106,793,036.
No arrests were reported.
