Home News 15 arrested for failing to wear masks in Region 7
Police in Bartica, Region Seven (Cuyuni-Mazaruni) have arrested a total of 15 persons on Monday for failure to wear a face mask in public.
The arrests came as ranks within the region carried out an enforcement exercise to ensure the stipulated COVID-19 guidelines were implemented.
Several shops and liquor restaurants were closed in keeping with the COVID-19 guidelines, and Police said individuals were also found in different locations without masks.
As such, they were arrested and placed on $5000 bail each. The violators are expected to make a court appearance soon.
Despite the numerous sensitisation exercises being carried out by members of the Joint Services, scores of persons continue to defy the COVID-19 guidelines.
Only recently, a number of persons were arrested in the township of Anna Regina, Region Two (Pomeroon-Supenaam), for failure to wear a mask in the public.
Moreover, during the Easter holiday weekend, 27 persons were arrested at resorts, beaches, and lakes along the Essequibo Coast. These persons were fined $30,000 for breaching the COVID-19 guidelines.
