2026 Independence 3-Stage Cycling Race set for May 23-24

The Guyana Cycling Federation will stage the 2026 Independence Three-Stage Cycling Race on May 23 and 24, with action set to span Regions 10, Four and Three, in what is expected to be one of the feature events on the local cycling calendar.
The two-day meet will feature three stages, beginning with the Linden “Out and Back” race, a 75-mile route from Linden to Yarrowkabra and back. The second stage will be the Coastal Race, covering 55 miles from Independence Arch through Ogle, the Berbice Bridge corridor, Parika and Schoonard.

The event will conclude with a circuit race, which will cover 41.6 miles at approximately 2.6 miles per lap.
Organisers have again designed the race to test endurance, speed and race management across varied terrain, with the three stages combining long-distance road racing and shorter, high-intensity circuit action. At the end of the programme, one overall champion will be crowned.
The event is being held under the auspices of the Guyana Cycling Federation with support from the National Sports Commission and is expected to attract a strong field of local and regional riders.
Among those likely to headline the event is defending champion Mateo Garcia Castaneda. The Colombian cyclist, who rides for Trinidad and Tobago’s Raiders Cycling Club, dominated the 2025 edition with a clean sweep of all three stages.
