29-year-old gets 65 years for raping girls aged 14 and 8

West Coast Berbice labourer Krishna Tulapersaud was on Wednesday sentenced to a total of 65 years’ imprisonment by Justice Sandil Kissoon in the Berbice Assizes.
The 29-year-old convict has been convicted of raping two girls, respectively aged 14 and 8 years old, who, during the trial, were revealed to be family members of the rapist. Tulapersaud was indicted on two counts of sexual activity with a child family member, for both of which the jury found him guilty. Justice Kissoon imposed a 14-year jail term for the first count of rape, and a 51-year jail term for the second count; and ordered that the sentences run consecutively. Evidence presented during the trial indicated that Tulapersaud had sex with the teenager on several occasions. Krishna Tulapersaud was represented by Attorney-at-law Charandass Persaud.
