2nd man arraigned for murder of Kaneville gold miner

A 25-year-old man of Kaneville, East Bank Demerara (EBD) is the second person to be charged with the murder of gold miner Nelson Thomas.
Seon Caesar, called ‘Ratty’, appeared before Principal Magistrate Judy Latchman at the Diamond/Golden Grove Magistrates’ Courts, and was not required to plead to the indictable charge, which stated that on September 9, 2021, at Kaneville, EBD, he murdered 36-year-old Nelson Thomas, called ‘Rambo’.
The murder accused has been remanded to prison until November 9, 2021.
Last month, Leroy Griffith was arraigned for Thomas’s murder, and was remanded to prison until October 26. He, too, was not required to plead to the indictable charge.
Thomas, called “Nelo,” was found dead at around 21:30h on September 9 near his Lot 1010 Kaneville, EBD residence. His body bore stab wounds.
At the time of his demise, he had just returned home from the interior, where he worked as a gold miner, to register the birth of his newborn baby. Following his return, Police said, the man left his home at around 19:00h to visit an uncle in the same community.
Later, he went to a barbershop, where he would usually socialise with friends. He was returning home when he was ambushed and stabbed by a man during an attempted robbery.
After the incident, a resident reportedly heard someone calling for him, and upon checking, he saw Thomas lying motionless on the eastern side of his yard under a shed, with his body covered in blood.
The injured man was transported to the Diamond Diagnostic Centre, where he was pronounced dead on arrival.
